The Elk Creek campus has been a test bed for alternative office design for years. In 2018, W.L. Gore decided it was time for the Elk Creek 1 building, which was mostly vacant, to undergo a major renovation. Not only would the design accommodate teams of associates, but it would re-evaluate the meaning of “office space;” this has resulted in a hybrid open office/closed office design, which gives Gore associates many different possibilities when it comes to selecting their work environment. The space is also designed to be a social hub, connecting many teams through random interactions as a result of the space’s main circulation paths and nodes. Phase 1 and 2 of this project are complete, while the third phase is under design, and it is proving to be a highly successful project.
