Local skateboard shop owners came to us to help them develop their site on which their existing skate shop sat. The existing building offered little in the way of additional income and they wanted to invest in a new building in hopes to generate additional income. Their idea was to tear down the small existing building on their urban site and replace it with a mixed use building which housed their skateshop on the ground floor and three stories of apartments above. The entire building as well as the apartments should be designed with an industrial aesthetic and should appeal to young college students on campus housing. This design brings the skateshop front and center and creates a ground floor skate shop and lower level indoor skatepark. Skateboards are also used in the architecture and create the building’s front louver system.
